What is Therapeutic Care?

Therapeutic care is managed by care staff who are specifically trained in delivering therapeutic support for children and young people. It is designed to provide children and young people, help, assistance and the opportunity amongst other aspect of their care, to manage their feelings, to understand their history and experience and what is needed to help them develop confidence and self-esteem to move through the difficult times.

Additionally, the way we as staff talk to young people, our tone of voice when interacting with them, practice of active listening and showing curiosity and interest, are ways of working therapeutically which enables the children to feel safe, listened to and respected.

High-quality therapeutic care and learning At My Stride, we aim to provide not only high-quality therapeutic learning, but also the opportunity for children and young people to continue their education which allows each child’s individual needs to be met, helping each young person to develop an enjoyment of learning and achieve their potential.

Some children and young people will have3 experienced disruption to their education for several reasons including placement moves and a lack of stability which will have impacted on their educational progress.  Some have never been able to manage formal schooling, and most will have an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP).

Supporting individual development At My Stride, we see children and young people’s development and learning as an inseparable part of the holistic, therapeutic living experience. To this end we provide an care and support that is integrated with the child’s placement plan and an individual therapeutic plan. An important part of this is to provide or support education that is appropriate to the child’s developmental stage.

Careful attention is paid to create an experience that acknowledges emotional development whilst ensuring that intellectual growth is also encouraged. My Stride works in partnership with a range of other educational providers and third-party organisations to ensure that each child and young person has their educational needs met in the optimum possible way with specialist educational clinical psychologists and support staff supporting specific learning difficulties and needs.
